“In Marimba Paul Jones suona principalmente la chitarra (12 corde) e Elia Buletti si occupa di quella che in genere é definita “l’elettronica” in questo caso sono dei sampler Akai, un synth Korg che fa anche da filtro e vocoder, registratori digitali e cassette e vari effetti a pedale (looper 4 canali electro Harmonix, looper/delay Headrush, analog delay). Paul ha lavorato vari anni a Londra come produttore per la Stolen Recordings, seguendo una sua “fissa” per la registrazione ambientale usiamo sempre un microfono aperto che registra la stanza. Ogni tanto Paul suona altri strumenti a corde, un ukulele con una corda da chitarra che fa da basso, una zita intonata secondo un suo open tuning, il mio charango boliviano comprato a La Paz da Pedro Mar in persona. Ogni tanto ci mettiamo a fare percussioni come degli squatters stoni negli anni 90 ogni tanto cuciniamo o faccio un caffè fuori dalla finestra si sente un bimbo tedesco frignare e sua madre che gli dice: sta zitto! Noi intanto ascoltiamo la musica ortodossa etiope di Alèmu Aga e diciamo: ecco così deve vibrare nelle basse. Parte di questo materiale audio viene usato com’é e parte viene ricampionato da Elia per essere poi triggerato via midi o messo in sequenza nei loopers e sui registratori. Talvolta Elia ci lavora in privato e porta le cose verso una dimensione più influenzata dalla musica elettronica scandinava (Tsembla, Tomutonttu, Uton, Kemialliset Ystävät) preparando alcune tracce su cui suoneremo la volta dopo. In sintesi il disco é una sorta di equilibrio informale che si crea tra la nostre conoscenze tecniche (Elia suona da più di 15 anni, Paul anche di più) e la voglia di fare un progetto lo-fi dove le pause abbiano la stessa importanza delle sessioni meticolose. Molto importante é stato infine l’editing (Elia) cioè il montaggio di tutto questo materiale in formato cassetta 2x20, abbiamo scelto un’estetica cut-up influenzata dalle raccolte di field recordings o da alcuni album di etichette come la Sublime Frequencies e ordinato questo materiale variamente stratificato come fosse della roba inaudita trovata in un sacchetto nel fondo di qualche vasto parco dimentico.” (Elia Buletti)
